Sara Fosstvedt _ongla — I enjoyed reading this book because I had never really considered the perspective of the Jewish in Egypt during WWII. I also found the tenderness with which she explored the emotions her parents must of felt, no matter how wronged or bitter she might have felt in some of the situations, to be thoughtful and lovely. While this book was well written, I think I enjoyed this book more because of personal family experiences, that the actual fascination an average reader would find. Even so, I would rcommend it.

Jared Scott jareddscott — I loved The Summer Book, and wanted to read more of her books for adults. Unfortunately, most of her novels have not been translated. Then this summer I was in the bookstore and saw two newly translated novels! The True Deceiver is like the Summer Book in that the prose is deceptively simple. There is more going on then what is said, and what is said is sparse and deliberate. The characters are odd and prickly. This book is darker than the Summer Book and in many ways seems like its opposite. The Summer Book is about living in one place, The True Deceiver is about taking over somewhere new. The Summer Book has characters who seem equal in power and go back and forth getting on each other's nerves. The True Deceiver has one sided power play and people's motivations are often hidden.

Irina Shumikhina multyirin — I never read Ladybug magazine, so I didn't know these characters, but when I saw the title I had to pick it up!

Weurui Yu tx025923ef27 — I enjoyed the storyline, great beach reading. It did a fine job suspending my disbelief, but the end of this book was frustrating for me (I guess as a non-series reader). I expect a book to come to end when I read the last page. It needs to wrap itself up in some way, even if characters and larger plot lines continue throughout the series. I needed to be allowed to jump into another book not of this series once this was done. But I can't. The immediate, short term action literally continues into the next book. Fortunately I borrowed all three books in the series from a friend so Book 3 is at my disposal, but I am feeling forced here. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo did not have this problem.
