Nelia Vieira neliavieirafdb2 — I actually couldn't get into his other books, but I thought this one was excellent. It's the story of an archaeological dig in Israel, but the book is basically two parallel stories--one from ancient times and one from modern day. In essence, one reads the story of what really happened in the area and is thus "in" on the secret of how certain items came to be buried where they are. At various intervals, the story switches to modern day and one reads about the archaeologists attempting to infer the actual story (that you now know) from the findings. I should say that the stories are converging rather then parallel; they do meet at the end in a satisfying way. Though the book is certainly dense and contains an incredible amount of detail, the two-stories-at-once plan in this novel really works to make it consistently interesting.
