Irmali Franco _173e5 — This book took me forever to get through in part because of the mass market format for the copy I had (forced me to hold it with two hands and couldn't multitask) but also because it was just not my thing. It gave me a couple of bad dreams and I took time off from it too. It took about a month to get through the first half, while I read a bunch of other books too. I was determined to finish though because Jim said it was one of his favorite books ever and gave me a copy someone left in our lunch room at work. Anyway The book is very dated, which is to be expected since it was published almost 25 years ago (in 1987). It was hard to ignore though because the book kept making references to THE SOVIETS. Oh no! The Soviets!! So everytime I read that it made me laugh a little inside which I am sure was not the author's intention. It was also a bit strange for me to read a book that felt modern, but made almost no mention of computers. At the very end of the book they got an IBM PC... ooooohhhh. The story was ok but the characters where pretty shallow and overall it doesn't really stand up to 25 years of the world changing.

Jean Philippe jpkalonji — Butt crack should really not be on book covers, no matter how good looking it is. An erotic short story about Star Fleet-type officers who take their holodeck privileges to new heights. Surprisingly well written.

Dustin Nash _enotguilty — This as a good book.

Miluska Carnero _iluska_arnero — This is the silly story of three friends who make a goal for themselves every summer. As they grow older, the goals become harder, and this year, the fifteen year old boys are determined to see a real live naked girl. As can be expected, this book involved a lot of crude humour and gross-out stunts, including, but not limited to, explosive diareah. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. The boys are also on a swimming team, and in an attempt to impress a girl, one of the trio volunteers to swim the butterfly, which he cannot do. Ridiculous situations follow. This was another White Pine book. I'm a little disappointed with the nominees this year.

Mob - mobgroupxxx — This is a collection of 3 stories about 3 different homes, and the lives and loves of the people in them, in New England during the mid to late 1800's. The best story was the first one, about a scheming widow who marries another widower, and sets in place a series of events that cause tragedy for the family. This story also featured my favorite character, the widow's daughter Lenora; a mischievous, trouble making girl who really had a good heart underneath; she was very entertaining and funny to read about. All 3 stories also had in them a "sickly" young woman, dying with what was probably tuberculosis. I am wondering if perhaps the author lost a sister of her own that way, and that is why it is a part of so many of her stories. The 2nd story was told in the first person, and the main characters first name was the same as the authors, so I have an idea that at least parts of that story were autobiographical. As with the first book I read of this author's, Lena Rivers, this wasn't great literature, but a pretty good and interesting read; all 3 stories kept my attention throughout and had some well written characters.
