This book contains some. Try it at home. (Something like that, anyway.) But I really liked Mau and Daphne (how old was Mau?), and Milo and Pilu (which one was older?), and Mrs. Gurgle. (What happened to the Grandfather's voices?Why did they suddenly cease?)

Tímea Farkas timeafarkas — Every time I bite into some flesh at a restaurant, I think about this book, and where the cow/chicken/pig came from. I learned a ton in this brave foray into non fiction, but I most advise that it goes slowly...read something else simultaneously is my advice.

Ann Umer projectmayume — I'd had an aversion to Dickens after reading Great Expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised with this one. Hard Times chronicles how Thomas Gradgrind raises his family according to strict facts and reason to the exclusion of sentiment, emotion, and spirit. As the two older children reach adulthood Louisa and Tom take divergent paths, but both end in destruction and bitterness. The father changes, but most of the damage is done and he learns to bitterly regret his educational regimen. I've got Oliver Twist yet, and I won't be so slow to pick it up now that I've actually found Dickens to be an enjoyable author to read.

Stephen Frost stephenfrost — I decided not to read the scheduled "Cartwheels in a Sari" so I read this instead as it is within the same bad-things-are-happening-to-me-in-the-name-of-religion genre. This was very good. I have read Carolyn Jessup's 'Escape" and so I know that most of the behaviors referenced in the book are true for FLDS. Word of warning, although this is written from the point of view of a 13 year old, parts are not sugar coated. The writing is well done as to ease the reader into what is going on though. There were some story lines that were not closed, but in general this was a good read.
