Alex Thiele alexthiele — **I just finished this for the 3rd time, and it gets even more delightful each time I read it. LOVE this book! This book was fantastic in every way - a heartfelt, fun, and serious story all tied beautifully together in a series of letters between the characters of the book. Through the story you discover the origin of the Guernsey Literary Society and the history of their island while they were occupied by the Germans during WWII. (I had no idea before I read this that Germany had occupied part of England - crazy!) I loved this book!!!

Alex Kakembo krialex21c5de — I've enjoyed all of Jon Krakauer's books, and he's probably received more acclaim for Into Thin Air and maybe Under the Banner of Heaven. But in my mind this is his best book. He doesn't editorialize (like he does at times in Into Thin Air and all the time in the Pat Tillman book), instead, he's a journalist who delves into the life of Chris McCandless in this well-researched story. Chris is a free spirit who basically hoboes his way across the country and eventually comes to a bad end because of his wanderlust. My only issue is that there are almost no pictures in this book. One of Chris at the bus in Alaska and that's about it. I found myself turning to that picture a lot while reading, wondering "Why did you go so far?" I experienced my fair share of wanderlust as a youth and I had some friends like Chris, too. Either we were just too smart to get ourselves in that type of situation or maybe we were just lucky; otherwise maybe Krakauer would have written one of our stories.

Rob Curedale _ob_uredale — This is a good book because different parts of it will make you laugh out loud, or want to cry, or make you think about some things differently. It's got mystery, comedy, adventure, drama, all rolled up in one. it's a pretty quick read, too. I recommend it. I think you'll enjoy it. a definition of love: "...because loving someone is helping them when they get into trouble, and looking after them, and telling them the truth, and Father looks after me when I get into trouble, like coming to the police station, and he looks after me by cooking meals for me, and he always tells me the truth, which means he loves me."

Ashley Hanson aahhadesigns — I love this book, until I get to the final chapter. That where the excessive poeticism and philosophizing begins. The plot is still incredibly compelling, and Elphaba is a great protagonist.
