Miguel Montecinos miguel3d — I picked up this book earlier during Freshman year but never got passed the first two chapters so I decided to start up and finish the book this summer. This is the story of a girl named Precious Jones who is 16 years old but has the education of an elementary school girl. She is described as African American, overweight, but very soft and lonely. She has no real family as her mother is not there for her and her father has raped her, and left the family. Precious goes on with her life trying to put her past behind her as she enters school and tries to achieve a new life. The book is written in Precious' point of view and has many grammar errors and slang terms as the way Precious would talk. I liked that element of the book because you felt like she was really talking right next to you. The story as she describes it can be very graphic at times which both made me disgusted but also want to cry. Precious is a very strong girl and I admire that she's working so hard to forget everything that has happened to her and move forward. To some people, Precious can be a wonderful inspiration so this book is most definitely a book not to miss out on.
