Yoo Ilhoon longpal — King's masterful in his storytelling here, I really think this is one of his greatest achievements. Absolutely a must-read for anyone who likes science fiction/horror that borders very closely reality. The only criticism I can think of is that it is slightly dated. But hey, he wrote this in 1977!

Cory Foster coryfoster — This book is a lot like a grown-up, sexualized version of The Catcher in the Rye. The main character, Alex Portnoy, spends the book talking to his psychologist, musing and crying and shouting about growing up permanently guilt-tripped, struggling with his parents and with his Jewish heritage, and ending up miserable in matters of love, in no small part because he makes his own misery for himself. The book is funny and could be worked into some good stand-up comedy. I understand if you decide you can't put up with his spoiled whining, but if you can, Roth has got a lot of uproarious, bittersweet, painful anecdotes to tell about Portnoy's life, which most importantly (and probably effectively as far as the humor goes) have a sort of ring of truth to them, like they were things that actually could have happened, you can imagine being there and seeing the narrator reacting as he does. (Maybe the book has some autobiographical element to it.) Unlike for Holden Caulfield, nothing really gets resolved for Portnoy; the books just carries his wailing and storytelling to the end, and this does get repetitive sometimes even if you don't object to the overall tone. There's no character development here and that kind of prevents the book from going places. Regardless, it's worth picking up for the solid laugh alone.

Ayla Dharamsey ayladharamsey — quite violent with little to redeem it. Sets batman against future police.

River Darling riverdarling — Rachel is my favorite itchy witch. Love all the trouble she gets into. Interesting world and characters.

Abilio Macario canfactoryltd64 — I actually finished this awhile ago but am just now getting around to posting my reviews. This was a fast read and it was very thought provoking. I liked that it wasn't straight forward - "here's how I grew up, then I went to school, then I got elected" etc. - it jumped around, touching on different times and places in his & his family's lives. Regardless of what you think of him, it was interesting to see his thoughts and ideas on the things that happened during his Presidency. For me as a Conservative Republican, it was very true to the values and ideas that I hold dear and only increased my opinion of him. I also found it interesting to hear about what he went through in some difficult and much criticized events that took place during his presidency. All in all, a very good read.
