Syril Mcnally syrilmcnally — Somewhat of a parable for the transgender community, wrapped up in the trappings of a dragon warrior story. Which is much more inventive and compelling than most "paranormal" YA, and even if you don't automatically think "dragons! cool!" like some of us (dorks), there is a chance you'll find the energy concept different enough to maintain interest.

Jeff Akstin jeffakstin — I had high hopes for this book, it coming recommended from multiple friends and a consistent NYT bestseller. The book started off a little slow for me, but by the second character's story, I was hooked. I loved watching their lives untangle, develop and unfold in a catastrophic, elegant way. They seemed real -- they were identifiable. I connected with them. I was disappointed, however, by the ending. I feel like Rachman couldn't find a way to conclude all of their stories together and instead capped the story with a quick, italicized summary. Definitely would recommend for anyone who's worked for a paper, spends time reading the news or has any journalism background.
