Tamara Czmiel tamaranoam — This ARC was provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Publish date: June 6th, 2011 Fiction – Adult: Romance: Contemporary, 70 000 words Carina Press All Emma Shaw wants for her Gram is to stay in Florida and be happy, but Cat is worrying about her grandchild who's living alone in a big house far away in New Hampshire. Solution? Gush about a fiancé you don’t have. When Gram announces plans to come for a visit, Emma’s only way out is to ask Sean Kowalski for a huge favor. Move in and pretend to be my fiancé for a month. Pretty please! Just home from Afghanistan and out of the Army for good the last thing on Sean’s mind is settling down. He doesn’t want a wife, a house, and a picket fence, does he? Despite serious reservations he goes along with Emma’s scheme, just to have his world turned upside down in the process. I read the first book of the Kowalski Family series a while ago and didn’t like it too much. When I saw a lot of good ratings on Goodreads / various blogs for the other two, I jumped at the chance to review Yours to Keep. A good pick, because I found it much more entertaining! The chemistry between Sean and Emma was there. Thank god for that, for I didn’t feel any between Joe and Kerri (Kowalski Family #1). It would’ve really sucked if that had happened again. Of course the idea to lie to your grandmother by hiring a fake husband-to-be was simply ludicrous and doomed to fail from the very start; the sheer implausibility of the plan had potential, though. I was glad to see the author used it to its fullest. She embraced it and created a fresh plot with likeable characters. Sean had something Alpha-like to him. He was a bit of a macho with lots of softy inside. Adorable! Once he decided to help Emma out, she could count on him. He didn’t let her down, even though they were complete strangers. I melted into a puddle of goo at his sticky-note antics. Had a bad case of envy. I, too, want a man who leaves me sticky notes everywhere. Emma’s reasons for the pretend game were honorable ones. Batshit crazy, but honorable. One could immediately tell that she loved her Gram deeply and wanted nothing more than to see her enjoying herself, surrounded by friends, in Florida. Emma is a sweet person, and deep down knew that this whole situation was kooky. By the way, she wasn’t one to take any crap from Sean and gave just as good as she got. The same character trait that attracted Sean to Emma made me connect with her, too. As the boss of her own landscaping business she’s used to getting dirty – working hard. It didn’t bother her in the least. Devotion! I admired that. Sean’s first reaction to her proposition was to say __. [It made things interesting. I liked how it was done. A too eager hero would’ve lost his appeal.] The Kowalski family was in on the fun, but didn’t take the focus away from the two main protagonists. It all worked like a well oiled machine. The story progressed at a good pace. Not too fast and not too slow. A little white lie morphed into something bigger. No insta-love. Yay! No way would I have believed it. Yes, they both were confused about their feelings, but I was well aware of the fact that they had to live together from the get-go to make the fake engagement seem believable. This made it possible to get to know each other’s good and bad sides in no time. Both of them had their weeknesses. Sean, for one, was soooo certain that something permanent wasn’t for him. All I thought was: You just wait and see fella. Their interaction, especially in the company of the whole family, was hilarious. I was laughing pretty much all throughout the book. Funny moments worth remembering! It totally cracked me up that Emma put up photoshopped pictures of her and Sean. On the fridge no less! What I liked best was that Gram noticed something was off right away. She was no dummy and figured everything out in a jiffy. I think it was important to share her point of view with the reader. While Sean and Emma had the hardest time keeping up the charade, she was in cahoots with Sean’s aunt Mary. Loved these two matchmakers, I truly did! To top it all off, Sean’s brother and cousins didn’t make it easy for them, either. Bottom line, they took every opportunity to mess with the twosome. I was thoroughly entertained. There were quite a lot of cute moments for me to enjoy. Sean catching her staring, Sean choking down broccoli, Emma flushing crimson at a mere touch... Even Gram had a fling – or more? Read the book and find out! There wasn’t anything to dislike about this contemporary romance. However, there ARE better ones around. Overall, a light, fun read. 4 stars to Yours to Keep by Shannon Stacey! Beware of Spoilers! A few of my favorite quotes for those of you who are interested: ° “You made up an imaginary boyfriend. – You’re not imaginary. Just uninformed.” ° “I’d never marry a woman who can’t cook. – I’d never marry the kind of man who’d never marry a woman who can’t cook...” ° “I’m being all...intense. – Bitchy, he muttered, not quite under his breath. – I prefer intense. – Intensely bitchy.” ° “He’d survive boot camp. He’d survived combat and the harsh weather of Afghanistan. He could survive broccoli. Probably.” ° “Your amazing kisses have made all rational thought fly out of my besotted brain. If only you could fill me with your magic penis...” ° “It was a slippery slope that led nowhere but to dotting his i’s with hearts.”

Stephanie Beck _eck — This book is pretty darn funny. I think the title is self-explanatory. There are mini-bios of famous dictators scattered throughout the book.
