Nicolas Kotas nkotiitasb400 — Having seen the movie so many times, it was interesting to read the book as abridged by William Goldman and get the history on what this book meant to him when it was first read to him by his father. His father had "abridged" it in the storytelling, and years later when Goldman gave it to his young son to read he was disappointed to hear that his son couldn't get past Chapter One. He couldn't understand this until he saw that the book as written by the original author Morgenstern was full of boring details that interfered with the wonderful adventure. So he embarked on writing an abridgment, and that's the story that was later made into the wonderful film. Reading the book itself was much like watching the film for me. In fact it made me want to see it, and I never do even though my husband begs me to watch it with him. And I'll say, No, I've seen it too many times. So I put the book down halfway through and I will now make my husband happy by watching the movie yet again. This Friday night-- The Princess Bride and popcorn.
