Mona Schlimper mona_schli92c1 — Well, I loved the movie so I was concerned about the book but I loved it. I loved that the author kept throwing in his two cents, and I found him hilarious. I did find myself totally picturing the movie as the lines were read...I've probably seen the movie too many times!

Kevin Diaz kevinonpoi2d78 — It turns out that I was not steered wrong by the reviews of the Malazan: Books of the Fallen series - the second book was indeed a vast improvement on the first. While it was far from an easy read, it flowed much better than the first. Each story thread was interesting and the way they came together as the novel progressed had an organic quality to it. Like the first book, there is alot going on in Deadhouse Gates. Unlike the first book, I felt enough context and exposition was presented to understand these various happenings. Tidbits of background information about the Malazan Empire, the Seven Cities, and the Ascendants are sprinkled through out, and are much appreciated. After reading Gardens of the Moon, I was not particularly impressed, but interested enough to continue the series. After reading Deadhouse Gates, I am genuinely eager to find out what is going to happen to the Malazan Empire and the multitude of characters residing with-in.

Najid Bin prayshan — Actually I spent a good bit of the book not liking it much at all, mostly because it is so crushingly depressing. But the threads come together in the last hundred pages and I couldn't put it down. It would be worthwhile to unpack this book at length--a lot of interesting commentary going on, not just about the morality of lab tests on animals, but also the media and a community's response to being in the spotlight. I also thought it interesting that Snitter and Rowf assume that men are in control of everything, when really it is the actions of Snitter and Rowf themselves that cause the men to react and generally show how very little control they have over much of anything.
