Victor Ramos victoraramosf — Wanda rocks ass. you know, i just read what i could of Ellen DeGenere's bk,( forget the title, and forget the bk...)and it simply wasn't funny. reading Wanda directly after, well...really no comparison. the main difference is: she, Wanda, is FUNNY. (sorry, Ellen...but different strokes. and i was shocked i say shocked to read that people didn't think margaret cho is funny! these people must be dead. a looong time. even if you're dead u know her and she's funny! so, maybe if u r still dead since the 14th century and non reincarnated, to you she isn't funny. ok.) A wonderful book to read, as i did, after a long day's work and you just need to curl up with a girlfriend who makes you laugh, and relax. Enjoy. "APPROVAL RATING--During the early part of his term Bush enjoyed a 70% approval rating. the majority of us were satisfied with the job that he was doing. which makes sense to me, because he pretty much did everything i expected him to do. the economy is in the toilet. we're at war and everything's on fire. he's met all my expectations. he's right on target in my book. we have such low expectations of the president. we let Bush get away with stuff, lying and poor grammar. i think there are quite a few Americans who just feel like no matter what he does we gotta get behind him. you don't pick on the slow kid.you don't do that. you don't boo at the Special Olympics. it's not nice. they're all winners. it's like when you don't say anything when the retarded kid eats his ice cream with a fork. you just let them enjoy their ice cream."

siribbington
Sam Ibrahim siribbington — I would argue that the book is more clear and perhaps easier to understand than the movie. But this is one of the rare cases where, at least in my opinion, there is more magic in the film. One of the things that I would have changed about this book was its character development. It is told entirely from the point of view of the main character, Griet. I never felt like I could connect to any of the other characters, or really care about them. Vermeer is portrayed as so far about understanding, even for Griet, that I was kind of turned off of him. And the author could have gone so much farther into the relationship which develops between Griet and Pieter. I felt like you could follow along easily, but never actually got taken along for the ride, if that makes sense. There was a lack of connection in this book which disappointed me. But I was impressed by the writing. There is a meticulous nature to how the author chooses her words, and in the actions of the character Griet that I found very appealing. It was certainly worth reading, and the story was interesting, although I would only recommend it to someone who enjoys good writing and introspection over a complicated plot or a lot of action.

Rafael Lopez rafaelgainzalopez — Katharine Hepburn wrote a light, amusing book about filming "The African Queen" in the Belgium Congo and Uganda. She and Humphrey Bogart were the big stars in the film directed by John Huston in 1951. They had to film this black and white movie along African rivers without falling in to get snapped up by waiting crocodiles or infected by some African parasite. Hepburn signed on to star in "The African Queen" because she wanted to see the country, and she enjoyed the African people and the beautiful countryside. She also almost got run over by a herd of elephants during a safari day, armed only with a camera. The actress wrote as if she was having a conversation with the reader while they sat down to have tea, and I could almost hear her voice in my mind as I read. I also enjoyed seeing the wonderful photographs.
