Nadir Noory nadirkinalur — liked some of the stories. don't love the magical realism. at least not allende's brand of it.

callumthomson
Callum Thomson callumthomson — I've often carried this little book with me on tour - gives me new ideas of things "to do". And I had to buy when on the very first page I could check off "Rehearse a Chekhov play with Vanessa Redgrave" and years later realized I could check off "Kick with the Rockettes". Hee.

regbabanto
Reginald Babanto regbabanto — Twilight. I read this book on a recommendation from a friend who insisted that it was a great book that would be worth it. So, valuing my friends' opinions I promptly went and read this book. It has to be one of the worst books I have ever read. Let's start out with the main character, shall we? Isabella Swan, or Bella Swan as she likes to be called. If that name does not cry out Mary-sue than I don't know what does. "Beautiful" Swan, for those of you who may be a little rusty on your Latin. Alright, so the story starts out with Bella making the oh-so-horrible sacrifice of going to live with her father in Forks, Washington. She ponders how her mother will ever survive without her. (Gee, probably the same way she did before you came along you little twit.) She gripes about pretty much everything related to her new residence including her father. He's bought her a car, and the only emotion she seems to show at this news is apprehension about how it will look. She shows almost no gratitude and instead moodily asks how old it is and how much it costs. At school, everyone fawns all over Bella, and she gripes about how annoyingly friendly people are, the only people she pays attention to are the gorgeous kids that we come to know as the Cullens, which includes Edward. Bella only goes downhill from here. She continues to gripe and moan about Forks, but now inserts mooning over the gorgeous Edward Cullen. We get constantly bombarded with flowery descriptions of how perfect and gorgeous he is. Edward Cullen. Ah yes, the wet dream of many a fangirl that I've met. A creepy, cold stalker. He falls in love with Bella, the only person who he can't read the mind of (for no particular reason, she's just special). The only real reason I could find for his love for Bella was that she smells good. So Edward, having had his interest grabbed by this inexplicably special girl begins to stalk her. He goes so far as to watch her through her bedroom when when she sleeps. That right there is creepy enough to me. He also messes with her car so she can't go out because he doesn't want her to go see her friend. Somehow, this is not conveying "ideal boyfriend" to me, more like abusive, obsessive creep. The actual plot past the two gushing all over each other and their "forbidden" love comes in about the last hundred or so pages, and Bella passes out, so we miss most of the action since the story is told from her perspective. Oh, and the big surprise that the Cullens are vampires is stated on the back of the book.

jylanaision
J Anais jylanaision — A hilarious book about a twenty-something who is a klutz. I read this on a plane and laughed enough to make my neighbor comment about how I must be reading a good book.

johnrestrepo
John Restrepo johnrestrepo — In this one, the mystery was pretty good, and Aurora and her husband are very romantic together, but the twist at the end less than stunned me.
