Ponyboy is the main character who lives with his two older brotherswith no parents. All of the neighborhood boys must stick together to survive their everyday lives. This is a great book that teaches how to overcome obstacles and learn to dream. I loved it! All of the boys in the book sound dreamy and I grew attached to them as I read the book.

See for yourselves...) Stephen King, the author who has, in the worst cases, given me sleepless nights, and in the best cases such nights, in which I had to leave the lights on, has written an autobiography - of course I had to read it. Well, actually, it was only the biographical part that interested me, I almost skipped the part about writing. Good thing I didn't! (FYI: The German title of this book can be translated as "On Life and Writing", which I find more appropriate than "On Writing") Stephen King has surprised me again, and I sometimes wonder why I am still surprised, because I already know what a versatile writer he is. The biografic part of this book is relatively short and doesn't consist of an ongoing narration of the story of his life, but of several "snapshots", as King calls them. First I was a bit disappointed that he didn't tell us more about his personal history, especially because those snippets were quite interesting and entertaining. While I was at it, I thought I should give the chapters on writing a try, and guess what? They were really great! King is teaching his knowledge in a humorous, sometimes downright funny way. He directly adresses the reader and presumable aspiring author, and explains certain aspects by using examples, but always without claiming to have found the one and only valid way. Who said that textbooks can't be entertaining? And who the hell claimed that Stephen King can't be funny? (Normalerweise poste ich keine Bilder in meinen Rezensionen, aber dieses Mal gab es zwei, die mich förmlich angschrien haben, sie hier einzufügen. Seht selbst...) Stephen King, der Autor, der mir in den schlimmsten Fällen schlaflose Nächte und in den besten Fällen Nächte, in denen ich beim Schlafen das Licht anlassen musste, beschert hat, hat eine Autobiografie geschrieben - keine Frage, die musste ich lesen. Dabei interessierte mich eigentlich hauptsächlich der biografische Teil; den Teil, der sich mit dem Schreiben befasst, hätte ich fast vernachlässigt. Gut, dass ich das nicht gemacht habe! Stephen King hat mich mal wieder überrascht, und ich frage mich, warum ich mich immer noch darüber wundere, was er alles kann, denn eigentlich weiss ich doch schon, wie vielseitig er schreibt. Der biografische Anteil des Buchs ist relativ kurz gehalten und besteht nicht aus einer fortlaufenden Erzählung seiner Lebensgeschichte, sondern aus diversen "Schnappschüssen", wie King sie selbst nennt. Zunächst war ich etwas enttäuscht, dass er uns nicht mehr aus seinem Leben erzählt, vor allem, weil diese Schnipsel so interessant und unterhaltsam waren. Da ich ja schon mal dabei war, dachte ich mir, ich könnte genausogut noch die Kapitel über das Schreiben lesen, und siehe da: Dieser Teil ist echt klasse! King vermittelt sein Können auf sehr humorvolle, teilweise sogar geradezu lustige Weise. Dabei spricht er den Leser und potentiellen angehenden Autor direkt an und verdeutlicht an Beispielen, wie er einen bestimmten Aspekt des Schreibens handhaben sollte, allerdings ohne dabei Anspruch auf alleinige Richtigkeit zu erheben. Wer hat gesagt, dass Lehrbücher nicht unterhaltsam sein können? Und wer zur Hölle hat behauptet, dass Stephen King nicht witzig sein kann?
