David Caballero narvalia — I'm just going to preface this review by saying that I am a Christian. And I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Sure, people whose beliefs are a bit stricter than mine might take offense to this novel. But that's totally OK, seriously. If you think this book will offend you (and I think you can judge by the title whether that's the case or not) then you probably shouldn't read it. I'm sure Christopher Moore knew while writing this book that it wasn't going to appeal to everyone. Few books do. I actually found this book very touching. Yes, it's funny and, yes, it's even crude at times. But at the end of the day, it is a well-written novel with a lot of heart. Being familiar with both the Old and New Testaments will make reading this novel even more enjoyable, because you'll catch more references. The novel is well-researched and, though the author takes some creative liberties (all explained in the Afterword), he does a pretty good job of keeping the setting historically accurate where possible. I thought this was a really neat idea for a story. The character of Joshua (aka Jesus) was beautifully written, and he was treated with respect by the author. Biff was the humorous character that could be treated with less respect, which is what made this novel work.
