I found that the depth of character development was engaging and the descriptions of the scenes likewise very vivid. I have enjoyed this book so much that I am planning to read more from Arthur Conan Doyle. In short, an excellent read, well written and highly engaging.

Why do I reread it? This book has the same pace as summer: the fresh new beginning, the warmth of summer nights seeping into your room, the excitement of free time! The sharp yank back to fall preparation (I was fifteen when I first read this, yet I still was petrified of the Lonely One) matches how one does feel. A rug has been pulled underneath you, summer does not go on forever, and things aren't as sunny as they once were. There is still next year, and living for a new cycle and new experiences is enough.
