Lara Maltz laramaltz7573 — Little Bee is one woman's story of trying to survive. She has grown up in an African village and is happy. When her land is more valuable than people's lives, her story changes. The narrator alternates between Little Bee and Sarah, and American woman who encounters Little Bee when she is on vacation in Nigeria. If you want to think about people and how lives intersect and have ripple effects, this is a powerful book. It shows sides of humanity that most of us try to avoid. I loved the characters and cheered with them and felt devastated with them--but I was always surprised.

Misael Rockr misaelmontiel — Worth reading every three years or so. The advice stays the same, yet is newly relevant for each current economic situation, whatever that situation may be. Partly because the frequent revisions address changing conditions but mainly because the ideas are so fundamental. The author states right up front that this is by no means the only good investment guide available, but that reading other good guides probably won't improve your knowledge and might confuse you even more. And he makes the point that many investment books are flat out not useful. They either explain to you how to play a certain investment game without addressing whether or not you should even being playing the game at all, or cover so much information that you finish reading just as overwhelmed as you began. Mircha Ivens mirchaivens — An arch, and at times, laugh-out-loud funny collection of essays from David Sedaris. I recommend the audiobook, narrated by the author, over the printed book because this is the best way to get at the author's tone and intention in each passage. Sometimes, his subtext doesn't come through as strongly in print.
