Harris Mcteyd harrismcteyd — I recieved Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for Christmas one year. My mom didn't know that the series went in order, and so she bought me the second one first. Yet, like any bored sophomore in high school over Christmas break, I read the second one instead of just going to Best of Books and trading it in. I loved it. More on that later... Point is that after reading the second book, I expected as much or more from this book--the beginning of the series. I did not get what I wanted. I was bored by this book. Unexcited. Unintrigued. I feel that if I had started this series with the first book, I would not have been a Harry Potter-ophile like I am today. --------- Now, ten/fifteen years later, I read the book again from a new perspective. I loved it. I expected it to lag or to drone on, like I remember before. I had no such experience. The book was fulfilling in all the ways I wanted it to be. An added bonus- the audio book is well read, and the reader/actor is talented and fun.

Noreen Fatima _ezine — This is a fine first contact/ alien invasion novel, written by people who know their stuff. It's well thought out, entertaining hard SF. It is so good in fact, that it should be used as a basis of comparison for any modern alien invasion movie. All that is stupid in "Independence Day", for instance, is highlighted by this book.

Jace Mcdill _ace_c_ill — This book is fresh and intriguing. I read it on the recommendation of a college professor. I had honestly not heard of Asperger's syndrome before. I learned something and enjoyed the story!

胡 苏 a11750740486467 — This is a nice book for elementary age students. Albert, the protagonist, is a half Navajo and half Apache who is orphaned except for a drunken grandfather who remembers all the old ways but does not try to help his people learn any new ways. Albert is smart but does not show it unitl a teacher new to the Bureau school herself takes an interest in the students in a sympathetic, caring manner. The lesson that an individual can choose life styles independently and with energy is evident in the closing when Albert writes on the board for the teacher. The grandfather chose a lazy, apathetic approach to life, but Albert is "lion-hearted." The author uses some symbolism in the form of a silver ring created by the grandfather for a tourist but given to Albert because the puchaser did not come to claim it. This universal theme of the children getting the leftovers from guardians who care only for themselves and the moment is strong in the little book.
