Patrick O portfoliopad — This was a very quick read (read in about 30 minutes), but it packed an emotional punch. The book was entirely made up of short notes posted on the refrigerator between Claire and her mother. Claire is an active 15 year old girl, busy with normal teen activities, and her mom is an obstetrician who spends a lot of time at work. These notes are the main way they communicate as they don't see each other very often. I was frustrated and saddened how little time they got to spend together, and how much Claire had to do for herself. When her mother is diagnosed with breast cancer, it is even more frustrating, because we know that they need each other more than ever. This was a very unique book, and it was very effective at addressing the mother/daughter relationship and presents an unusual way of glimpsing into their every day lives. Kuipers did a good job of expressing emotions into even the shortest notes. I enjoyed this book, and would definitely recommend it.

Earl Downs zonadowns228d — From my Amazon.com review: Nothing earth-shattering here... I was drawn to this book because of its interesting title (and I wanted to see if she had a concrete answer for it), but it ended up teaching me nothing, other than the fact that Dowd is a well-connected individual, quite the name dropper. "My friend at Newsday said..."; "a friend from the Village Voice...,"; "a friend of mine who's a reporter for so and so...." etc. This quickly became irritating. And I already knew that men prefer to date their secretaries, not their bosses. That men are intimidated by smart women. That men want a woman with a lower IQ but a higher body temp. GENERALIZATIONS of course, but still true to some extent. All I really wanted to read was a book about basic feminism, how women can make it on their own, not have to get married, be happily single in a pairing society. But no, this was still about smart women looking for serious relationships. The political aspects were boring, I thought. If I'd wanted to know so much about Ms. Rodham Clinton, I would have bought her biography or something. A useless book, but I liked the cover art.

Cindy Jording matthewjordbdd — Great story lines. This was a good book! Good cops, bad cops, the mob, action, suspense & enough humor & romantic interest to make it more than just a "shoot-em-up". The main characters are from the Bronx, NY - close to where I grew up, so lots of familiar settings & "personalities". Leaves you wanting more at the end. There definitely has to be a sequel - I need to know how this plays out. Would make a great movie. First time author, Brian Morley, did a wonderful job.
