Martin Morandini martinmorandini — I've been reading a lot of memoirs (or life stories with creative enhancements) lately. Most are painfully bad and commit the horrific crime of being dull. Most shocked me with an oppressive self-centeredness while miraculously dodging any act or hint of self-awareness. I mean, I'm merely writing a short review and I'm totally aware of the self-importance I'm exuding. I'm not going to pretend that I'm humble or thoughtful; I'm doing this entirely because I like writing about the VERY. IMPORTANT. STUFF I like to think about. The difference between self-indulgence and self-reflection often gets murky in a book like this one . It's a daunting challenge that I'm probably not capable of handling with any grace. Probably. Anyway, I think Dave Eggers manages this challenge with careful skill. Yes, yes, I agree that he sounds pretentious at times and overly self-congratulatory at others. There are even occasions where his attempts at authenticity lead to embarrassing revelations that felt like a kind of meta-pretense. Ultimately, I enjoyed Egger's writing style and the flights of his imagination that launched at the slightest of provocations. Quite frankly, his life isn't all that interesting. That's fine. Most of literature is about boring stuff when you think about it. I mean, Pride and Prejudice is about a bunch of spoiled, jobless aristocrats worrying about ribbons and getting married. Yawn. But, its the writing and narrative choices that made that snoozer interesting and a classic. I not suggesting that Dave Egger's book will be a classic; I'm saying that I enjoyed reading his book. It reminded me that our reactions (often over-reactions) to the simple things in life are what make every individual's life so wildly fascinating.

André Lima andrelm — ** spoiler alert ** I admit, I watched True Blood before I read the books, and I intentionally waited until after Season 2 had finished airing as sort of a... well, I don't know what. But it took willpower! It's interesting to note the differences between the book and the show, and perhaps because True Blood airs painfully slowly, one hour a week, the book seemed to just fly by. While I was definitely on Team Bill for the TV show, the Vampire Bill of the books doesn't seem quite as indispensably RIGHT for Sookie. So now I feel totally fine with my slight defection to Team Eric -- and that's why I'll probably read the next eight books, oh, tonight or thereabouts. TL;DR: Fast read, fun, less-sexy-than-TV Vampire Bill, needs more Eric. Quick read.

Camilla Motta mottacamie — I find her books to be hit or miss, this one was a hit, although I am not sure if it was a hit because I'm pregnant and it is a story of 4 pregnant/new moms. I may not have enjoyed the book as much if I wasn't at this stage of my life.
