Adriano Padilha adrianopadilha — A book unlike those I usually read. Had I known more about it, I probably would not have started to read it. Teenager, Emily arrives in a small town to live with her grandfather after her mother dies. A grandfather, a giant of a man, she didn't know existed a few weeks before. The house and grounds suffer from neglect, probably because he misses his wife and regrets the circumstances of his daughter's leaving and loss of contact. Emily moves into her mother's old room, a room thats wallpaper magically changes depending on the mood. She meets some of her mother's high school classmates and learns that her mother left town for something she did to offend a member of one of the prominent families. By circumstance she is drawn to a young man from that family as he is to her. Strange things surround the members of that family who never go out after nightfall. A far-fetched story but a quick read.
