Tomáš Mikulecký tomasmikulecky — Jerrit Schramm 4/1/09 8-1 LA Rascal The book Rascal is a classic story that was written by Sterling North, who is also the main character. Sterling lives on a farm in Wisconsin with his widowed father and their extended family of pets such as Poe the Crow. The story starts out when Sterling and his best friend, a German immigrant, Oscar Sunderland are hunting for a raccoon and come across the den filled with five tiny babies. Sterling decides to take one home and raise it himself like he did with so many of the other animals at his home. After Sterling has raised the raccoon, which he named Rascal, his father takes the two of them to a lake a few miles from their home for a day trip. While there, Rascal learns how to climb, fish, and clean its prey. When they get back from the camping trip, Rascal and Sterling go to the town fair and join a pie eating contest and won but they were disqualified for having assistance but Oscar won instead. At the end of the story, Sterling, his Dad, and Rascal go on another camping trip and meet a man who has a summer cabin in the north woods. When they first find him, he is fly-fishing and brings in a huge trout. After that talk for a while, the man gives them permission to use his cabin whenever they want to. This book is definitely a five star book because I like books that have outdoors content like fishing and hunting. If I was going to recommend this book to any group of people, it would be the people who like a good story about a classic man-animal friendship with outdoors content.

Kritika Arora kritikaarora — Hmmm. I'm not sure where to put this one. The writing was fantastic, the story was great, and who couldn't love characters named Rube and Swede? Miracles still do occur although we often take them for granted or choose not to acknowledge them. The beauty is in the journey not necessarily the destination. Life doesn't always go the way we would have liked but upon reflection you realize it was probably the best way. Sounds like a self-help book, no? I suppose in a way it is and its a hell of a lot cheaper than a therapist-and you can sell it on half.com when you're done whereas you can't make any cash off of a wacky doctor. I digress. I liked this. I'm unsure of the spiritual part however.
