Ivan Vilovski vilovski_design — This book has a slow build-up. Everything I was looking forward to--and encouraged, by the book, to expect--seems to happen in about 4 pages. I like the ending a bit better than the ending of the first book, which was just a blatant "There's another book coming!" announcement.

Camila Pirela camipi — Of the Feehan books I have read, this one has the least plot and some of the most repetitive writing. I read these because I enjoy a good sex scene in a book on occasion (sometimes these occasions last for months at a time :), but I wasn't even entertained by the sex in this one. The male character, Gregori, is ancient and powerful and the female, Savannah, is too young and emotionally fragile. In most vampire romance, I easily forget that the vampire is sometimes centuries older than their love interests, but in this one, I just couldn't shake the feeling that Gregori was just too darn old for her.

G R nefryt — ** spoiler alert ** The plot is given like this: A very rich man suddenly finds he needs a heart transplant after developing severe cardiomyopathy. After the successful transplant, a woman begins to stalk him claiming his heart is hers and she wants it back. The reality is this: He doesn't even get the transplant until halfway through the book. Up until then, he develops severe paranoia and starts having strange and disturbing dreams. Much of this could actually be reasonably explained by the medical issue he faced, but of course, this being a Dean Koontz novel, that isn't the actual reason. The protagonist quickly and somewhat inexplicably rejects that the stalker is a ghost as the plot summary and knowledge of the author's past works would imply, and almost immediately he pinpoints the correct human suspect with almost nothing to base this on. So the actual "mystery" turns out to have a deeper spriritual meaning behind it - a meaning which I found interesting, but the journey to get there and the fact that this particular character was able to get there at all, was completely implausible. The bottom line is that even for Dean Koontz, this was an odd book. It reminded me why I don't bother to read everything he writes.
