Mushtaq Khan _ushkhan — A high-school teacher I met at a party in Paris wrote this. I really enjoyed the description of the Louvre as the run-down royal residence and other fun tidbits about life in the court.

Ian Salt _aking_amers — In retrospect maybe this book isn't worth four stars. Stories that at the time of his death hadn't been collected in books yet, along with some essays about writing and literature. Yet another review for a book I read at some indeterminate number of years ago that I remember very little about. In lieu of a real review, here is a piece I'd like to call: What I Thought about When I Thought about Raymond Carver Today. Thinking about what to write today I was thinking about how some writers have careers that seem to stretch for decades. Like when you think of Philip Roth, there are Philip Roth's for the 60's through the current time. All different Philip Roth's. Sort of like John Updike too. Other writers seem to embody just one small sliver of time. Like Tom Robbins, he can keep writing novels till he's 189 years old, but most likely it will still seem like he's stuck sometime in the post-1960's to very early 1980's. He'll never wash ex-hippie from him. Raymond Carver seems to embody such a small sliver of time, like very early 1980's and he might be dead by that point, or maybe not. I have no idea how long he was really in the spotlight for, or when he died, and I'm not looking it up, because it's beside the point, he's there for like a moment, sort of like in music Nirvana to me, they aren't timeless they are a brief flicker of early 1990's that are then gone, and Carver is sort of the same way, but for about 10 or 15 years earlier, of course I know what I'm talking about, at least subjectively for Nirvana, and I'm talking out my ass about Raymond Carver, but anyway; that's what I've been thinking about when I've been thinking about Raymond Carver for the past day or two (ohhhhhhhh Henry twist!!! I said today in the title, but it's actually been for the past two days!!!!!).

_affodils
Mohan Joseph _affodils — Necessary Endings, by Dr. Henry Cloud, Harper Business, 2011, 256 Pages, ISBN-13: 978-0061777127, $25.99 "Toxic, hurtful or problematic" describes many personal or business relationships that should end, writes Dr. Henry Cloud in his new release, Necessary Endings. Whether from fear, regret, anticipated consequences or conflict that might arise from life-altering decisions, unhealthy relationships continue. Dr. Cloud, clinical psychologist, leadership coach, and best-selling author of Boundaries, argues "personal and professional lives" improve to the extent necessary endings are accomplished. Such endings correct what no longer works and allows room for personal and professional growth. His insightful advice and case studies equip readers to "end pain and foster personal and professional growth." Henry Wadsworth Longfellow writes, "Great is the art of the beginning, but greater is the art of ending." Cloud agrees and explains how to bring about positive endings both personally and professionally...Full Review: http://tinyurl.com/68fh3q9
