Nathália Corrêa nathaliagvcorrea — So far, a hard read. I enjoy it when I read it, but when I set it down, it might be a few days before I pick it back up again. That's how I know I'm having trouble getting into a book-when I don't want to immediately pick it back up once I set it down! I'm trying to motor my way through it, but it is slow going! Updated 3/19/11: Just finished Moby Dick last night. What a hard read! I found a lot of it to be kind of boring and extraneous to the real story. For example, there might be one chapter focusing on the Pequod (the ship) and the events happening, and then the next two or three chapters are about how one specific rope on the ship functions, or how whales have been portrayed in art, or a story of some other random whaling ship and what happened to it. And then back to another chapter about the Pequod, then back to random other details. If they would edit it to take those chapters out, the book would be half as long and flow a lot better. The actual battle with Moby Dick was about 10-15 pages of a chase and then one page of the final showdown, so it felt anticlimactic to me. Plus, I think I approached it with the wrong frame of mind. Ahab is clearly the villain, and poor Moby Dick was just defending his territory! I didn't feel sorry for the whalers at all. So-maybe I'll give this book another try in a few years, but for me right now, it was just ok. Sorry, Melville!
