Hirotaka Kimura nitalworks — "A Homemade Life" was a pleasure to read. I read all but 40 pages of this book in one afternoon, which is usually a good sign. Molly's writing and descriptive stories create vivid imagery and instant camaraderie. Any food lover would enjoy her delightful accounts, tidbits, and recipes. Her reveling in her father made me ponder my family a little bit. While reading her work, I couldn't help but think that if anyone who is a parent wants to know about him or herself, they should just ask their child(ren). Does anyone watch another as diligently as a child does her mother and/or father?? It never occurred to me that each and every person who has a child inadvertently leaves a legacy/legend behind whether or not it is realized (good and bad). There is a great deal more than food to take away from this novel. Two of my favorite quotes from "A Homemade Life"are: "When I walk into a my kitchen today, I am not alone. Whether we know it or not, none of us is. We bring fathers and mothers and kitchen tables, and every meal we have ever eaten. Food is never just food. It's also a way of getting at something else: who we are, who we have been, and who we want to be." "He brought a deep-seated need for pizza, the kind that only an East Coaster can know" This might be one of the books I will buy to add to the esteemed "permanent shelf".
