She doesn't even know who her father was, only that he was a white man, or even what her real name was - Maria Rosalia was the name given to her by Padre Ygnacio, the priest who saved the lives of her and her little brother. Even though she is well treated by the family she works for, the Medinas, Maria Rosalia longs to know who her parents were. Her only hope would be to find Padre Yganico, and she doesn't have any idea where he is after all these years. Still, Maria Rosalia is able to find joy in holidays and celebrations, in writing in her diary, and in a new American friend, but there is a great deal of sorrow as well. This was an excellent addition to the Dear America series (and one of my favorite books in the series) that revealed a great deal about a way of life that has vanished into the depths of time, and taught me about a period in American history that I knew little about.

Dominic Taing wasim381c31 — I liked this book a lot and I learned a lot about Ayurveda. The more I read this book, the more it made sense.

Thomas Bonneville _homas_onneville — At the start of this amazing true story, Henri Charriere is embittered towards the people who have accused him of a murder he has not committed. Sentenced to a lifetime of hard labour in a penal colony on Devil's Island in French Guiana, the plotting for his escape begins. His subsequent adventures and experiences take your breath away... I loved the way that he never gave up hope, fueled by his sharp intelligence and undying determination to be a free man once more. I also liked him because ultimately he was a kind and unconventional hero.

Tat Sin _atsin — I'm so excited about this story. It mirrors the movie I love so much until roughly chapter six. By the midpoint of the book, you are in an entirely different story. I feel like I got an additional time with Howl, Sophie and Calcifer. Joy!
