Sergey Golubitskiy sergey55550 — Fantasy is not my preferred genre. In fact, it's not even close to my genre comfort zone. But I gave this book a try and I am SO glad that I did! What an amazingly captivating story! I enjoyed how the author told the story from each of the characters' perspectives. It gave the reader a 360-degree view of the plot as well as the other characters within the story. It also helped the reader to gain an in-depth understanding of each chapter's narrator that one doesn't otherwise get when a story is told from a single perspective. I also loved the audacity of the author to kill off seemingly crucial characters in the blink of an eye. It kept the reader guessing as to how the story would continue without the presence of that "oh-so-important" person. While I did love it, I found that I was a bit crippled as a reader. Since I am not typically a fantasy reader, it took me some time to become accustomed to several aspects of this book. The first was the character names. Some are unusual and the author makes a habit of using both nicknames as well as full names - which caused me a bit of confusion. The second is the unusually large volume of characters involved with the story. I found that it helped to constantly refer to the familiar outlines in the back of the book, but I still had to continue reading (at times) even though I wasn't confident as to who was being discussed. Overall this is a very well written and captivating story that could continue forever (and seemingly does with another several - lengthy - books in the series). Pick it up and give it a try, you won't be disappointed!
