I love this feeling - this feeling that I only get when I've read a satisfying series of books - Dark Materials, Casa Dracula and the Sookie Stackhouse novels are also creating this wonderful stupor feeling of having fallen in love with the characters and truly admiring an original plot line. I have been held hostage in the Hunger Games world for the past week. I remember when I started reading the first book last Thursday that I would only manage to finish the book and who knows when I would get to the next one. Was I completely wrong when I rushed to the bookstore to get the sequels - I needed to know the whole story now! Which led to my after hours reading - long into the night because I just couldn't put the book down. Just when I thought I was heading to a good break, Suzanne Collins would thrown a word, a character, witty dialogue or some wonderful cliffhanger and I would be "OMG I can't stop reading!" What can I say? I've been in love with the Katniss-Peeta relationship form the very start, when Katniss described his goodness in sharing bread to her when she was literally on the verge of collapsing from hunger. How can you not love that story? But as the story unfolds, you just don't know how beautifully Collins is going to draw you into their journey together, into Katniss figuring out her love for him, where everyone knows it before she does. Peeta is just the most wonderful character, really throwing his life to protect her and showing a gift of words and camaraderie that is hard not to love. Gale... Gale is sweet, but as someone else said, Gale's purpose is just to be the good looking guy and he adds to the wonderful love triangle setting, where even though it's so obvious who Katniss should stay with, you just don't know because the whole book is unpredictable. The ending was yes satisfying, but couldn't the author had indulged the readers just a teensy bit and have created more than one paragraph to share Katniss's decision - seriously? At least one page???? There is an epilogue - but I wouldn't mind a whole other book between the ending and the epilogue - just on the relationship. Yes, I wouldn't mind.... I'm so happy that I read this book before the movie coming out next year - I have completely created my own version of the Hunger Games, but also very curious to see how this can be portrayed on film. These series are quite rare - I'm looking forward to enjoying more of these (Harry Potter is next :)
