Yerely Fonseca yerelyfonsecad9cd — This book is depressing. I am a Mo Willems lover, so when I saw this at the library, I had to pick it up! There were two copies so Matt and I read it side by side. I love having a boyfriend who will happily read picture books with me!!! I digress. Anyway, this was a touching and very well-illustrated book, but very sad. In the book, the dog comes out to the country once in a while and chills with his buddy, the frog. Each season goes by, they hang out and have a good time doing what they do. Then winter comes along, and the dog can't find the frog anymore. Spring comes and the frog never returns... the dog just makes a new friend, squirrel. I think it is supposed to be a book about the circle of life. That is an important and also sad part of life. It was just a big punch in the face when the frog apparently died... I am going to read this to my class and see if little kids will even get what happened. We'll see... But it was a beautiful book!

Sharon Broadley sharonbroa49c5 — For someone who is celebrity obsessed but has never had a baby or been pregnant, I do love my celebrity baby books. Bumpalicious was my latest purchase, and I was expecting more along the lines of Jools Oliver (but with less recipes!), Tess Daly and Myleene Klass's books/diaries. I wasn't disappointed as such. The book includes Denise's diary and opinions and some photos presented in the middle of the book, just when I was getting irritated as I thought there were none. But there is a LOT of advice from not one, but three experts on everything from nutrition, exercise and what you should and shouldn't be doing. So these long, in-depth and full of irrelevant stuff that someone like me did NOT need to know (do I need to know what a perineal massage is, or that I should not drink caffeine or eat blue cheese? No. Just cut out all my favourite foods and drinks why don't you!) If you wanted to know all these things (and more) you would probably be better off buying The Idiot's Guide To Pregnancy or similar. Denise claims that she couldn't find all the information she needed in these books, that's why she wrote her own - including a little promotion for Myleene Klass's book. I enjoyed the diary entries, but ended up skimming or just plain skipping huge chunks of the expert advice. Would have been better off sticking to just doing a plain diary book, like so many of the other celebrity mum books out there.

Serenella Lanciano _an_ — Read this on a bookring in BookCrossing. My maiden dip into Mercedes Lackey. She hooked me in the author's notes, because I am a birder and loved reading about raptor rescue and rehab. What an interesting collection of stories and characters. Some how SKitty reminded me of my own beloved kitty who departed for the next life at age 21. When she was 16, she developed end-stage renal disease and the vet gave her 6 months to live. She showed him! She didn't have raccoon like hands, but there was a strong telepathy between us. I'd never been a cat person before or since. Thank you again for this intro to Mercedes Lackey. I look forward to visiting with this author again. PS Yesterday, I saw a bald eagle and an osprey out my back window...and my husband reminds me that boy-czuk's high school team are the Raptors. Coincidence? I think not!

Dreamie Dragon _reamie — With its almost vintage 1950s mystery cover, a la graphic novel, I was intrigued. Clare is just past the age of twenty-one and is a police officer working boring breaking and entering cases and somehow gets a crack at going undercover when the local mayor dies at a political event. Reasons abound for Clare to become a student at the University of Toronto, and her Political Science class offers more than enough suspects to find a killer who has made killing politicians a priority to spread the word about a secret society that won't stand for two-faced elected representatives. Clare can carry a weapon, fix a car, and make rookie mistakes in her first chance to wear a different identity. I have to admit, I was worried to read it because I had a little bit of a preconceived notion that I might not like it. The story line sounded interesting, but for some reason, I thought it wasn't up my alley -- well, within the first few pages, I was hooked and read it in one sitting, laughing and enjoying the ride along the way. The chapters change from one character's perspective to another, and although it took me a few chapters to feel a little comfortable with it, I fell right into it and had a blast with this. The dialogue was snappy and natural, and the characters were developed and interesting -- Clare's interactions with her "handler," a more senior officer were frustrating and hilarious. I mean, could he just say one nice thing or pat her on the back just once? I wanted her to tell him off but I relished each time she had to meet with him. Robin Spano has put together exactly what you want in a murder mystery with a strong chick as the lead who's just getting her feet wet in all things law and order. I probably never would have thought to pick up this book had I not had a chance to review it for the Crazy Book Tours, and I'm glad I did. You can better believe it when I tell you that I'm amped and ready to read book two when it comes out.
