Chris Prime primey4 — I was a kid when I read this and this was not an assignment but I was intrigued to read it because I saw the film. The book is much better than the movie. I could NOT believe how nasty the mother treated her own children but she was trying to KILL her children to receive a huge inheritance from her family. Read the story! It will captivate you to the point where you do not want to stop reading! I think I read this book in about 3 or 4 days.

Nelson Gigante nelsonfelix — I received this from the First Reads giveaways. I am so glad I didn't pay money for this book. While the information on gnosticism is interesting, the book as a novel was not. The characters are not developed at all, they exist only to teach gnostic history. While reading, I kept wondering if it was written for a "young adult" audience, as the writing was incredibly simplistic. I don't think I've ever given a book one star before. Terribly disappointing.

Angela Cordova gelacoryc3f5 — I like all of Nevada Barr's mysteries, but this was definitely one of the best I've ever read. As always, she described both the characters and the story's location very well. The plot twists and turns were unpredictable, making for a great sense of suspense. She also managed to accurately portray some of the politics inherent to national parks. Being from Texas originally, I especially enjoyed that the story was located in Big Bend National Park.
