Gaurav Raj graj6683ab6 — I expected more from the book. It was very easy to follow and I enjoyed reading the first part of the book. The details of the war were okay and the finale was not what I expected. Looking forward to seeing the movie to see what ending they chose.

Promodranjan Ghosh promodranjanghosh — Youth fantasy/fiction is my genre. I'm a 30-something mother of 4, but I love Harry Potter, Fablehaven, and the like. I was disappointed with Tunnels. The story seemed promising - a misfit teenager discovers a secret underground world. But as another reviewer has said, there were things missing. I don't have a single criticism of the writing. These authors have a gift for descriptive writing. They are able to create a detailed image of the story without getting lost in the details. But the story and the characters were lacking. I expected Will to fall in the category of hero I've grown to love in this genre - average, misfit, good-hearted boy who discovers an innate gift or magic that helps him in his newly-discovered calling to fight evil. There is no magic, no calling. There is evil, but not enough goodness to make me invest in Will. Also, it took nearly half the book to get into the underground world. I don't know what could have been left out to speed that along, but 200 pages is a long introduction. I do want to read the sequel because I think it could be better without so much introductory material to get through. We'll see.
