Dariyalova Dariyalova yalova — I chose Death at the Chateau Bremont as my first adult dip into the world of mystery novels. I made a wonderful choice in doing so!! M.L. Longworth's debut novel follows wine and food snob Judge Antoine Verlaque and cafe obsessed law professor Marine Bonnet as they work together to solve the untimely death of a local wealthy aristocrat at his decrepit chateau home in Aix, France. I honestly don't know what can really be said about the plot that won't destroy all the mystery within, but I can say with great confidence that this was a fantastic read! Each of the characters is superbly developed; their histories, their personalities and their appearance are all detailed and precise to the point that you feel you are acquainted with these people. Longworth herself is French and as someone who continues to romanticize the idea of France/the French in general, Death at the Chateau Bremont delivers hard. I searched right away to see if there was a follow-up in the works (the cover lists it as a Verlaque & Bonnet series) only to find that this book is so spankin' new that a sequel was yet to be planned. I'm very excited at what else Longworth can craft with such a strong foundation in her first novel and pray she won't stop here!

Cosimo Barberi cosimobarb0707 — Absolutely charming book about a food writer who travels to China to seek the truth of a paternity claims against her deceased husband. In addition she receives an assignment to interview the owner of a new restaurant opening in Beijing. Maggie's interviews with Sam, whose backers for the restaurant have pulled out, continue because she discovers that he is one of ten finalists for the Chinese Cultural Olympics. These two story lines, the paternity claim and the preparation for the culinary contest, are woven throughout the book. And citations from the faux Last Chinese Chef that lead off every chapter lend depth and breadth to the story. This will be appealing to lovers of Chinese food, anyone who enjoys cooking, or wants to read an intelligent, moving novel.

Eugene Akimov ajmoments — Definitely one of those books that felt like it ended too quickly for comfort. I miss the characters (so well sketched!) and the setting came across admirably, for someone who's never been to Wales (though I have seen NW England). I would read another Walton book in a heartbeat.

When budding young ecoterrorist Twilly Spree begins a campaign of sabotage against a grotesque litterbug named Palmer Stoat, he gets much more than he bargained for. This was my first Hiaasen book and definitely not my last. I also learned a little bit about how politics and lobbying work (Hiaasen writes for the Miami-Harold so he knows his stuff).
