David Davila davila1981da4c — One of the most interesting discussions I have with my students about Huck is about his moral formation. In what ways has his abusive and alcoholic father "formed" his conscience? Perhaps Twain never expected us to look psychologically into his novel, but it's impossible not to reflect on Huck's formation, when we read about the racist, hog-like, monstrous Pap. So that's why I think this novel was an incredible idea! I was skeptical, but I really liked this "prequel" to Huck Finn. I only wish I'd had the ingenious idea to write it! This is the story behind Pap Finn, Huck's alcoholic father. He's just as disgusting, racist, and ghostly as he is in Twain's novel, but I love the twist that changes the way we see Huck as a character...you'll have to read the reviews or the book to find out, because I won't tell you. I also love that this novel makes up for something that we don't really find in Twain's...a couple of interesting, realistic, integral female characters. I LOVE the ending!!! You'll find yourself riveted in the last few pages. And, I'm sure you all know I'm a sucker for great last lines...this one's got it!!! Read the author's note about this novel's connection to The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Mark Twain...Clinch hits just the right tone of admiration, inspiration, and originality. About half way through Finn, re-read the excerpt from The Adventures of Huck Finn...you'll notice Clinch's very cool attention to detail.

Sharon Sinclair sinclairsharon28 — I liked this cute story of Roxy and her recently deceased Granda (grandfather) who is a ghost. Roxy is a high school girl who is a geek who has two best friends. Roxy goes on a quest to help solve some problems for a couple of little girl ghosts she encounters at her school. Her friends no nothing of this. Follow Roxy's quest to help her new friends and deal with the old. The ending is so "wow I never saw that coming".
