Nawa Ali ghco1212c4be — I'm not sure how I feel about this one. On one hand, it was very well written with extremely complex characters. The plot was engaging and I wanted to continue reading to find out what happens to these people. The author was skilled in writing a psychological thriller and delving into the minds of the characters. However, I don't think I've ever read about more depressing individuals. All three are in such denial to each other and themselves that they rationalize the lies they've created to build a life together. A life that can't go anywhere and is essentially a house of cards. They are all sad, lonely, lost people and continue to be up to the end. Quite the downer from the first page to the last.

Sangho Chung _angho_hung — A person of incredible athletic talent on the gridiron, track, and diamond who struggled so mightily with every other aspect of adult life. Such was the life of Jim Thorpe. Today, we still see athletes who can be so totally in command of themselves on the field of play and without the ability to handle life off of it. Buford does a very thorough job of describing both the glory and the pathos. The intertwining of the condition of Native Americans in the first half of the 20th century adds to the story, as does the mythologizing of American football and the rise of professional sports. It is not necessary to be a sports fan to enjoy this book. A very good read.
