_arine_ijoux
Dijoux Marine _arine_ijoux — I have read several of Thomas Moore's books over the last 20 years. I never fail to take something away from them to help me be at a higher level of peace in my own life. I set this book down for many months and just picked it up again to finish. The last few chapters are helping me to ground in my life now, enjoy the work I do now and look forward to where it will lead me, what I will learn from it to take on to the next part of my journey in my life's work. I have always admired the peace monks seem to have in their simple every day lives. Moore lived in a relgious order so he can write about the experience. He shares what he learned. "I was encouraged to love work as a spiritual path." It reminds me of Thich Nhat Hanh writing of being in the moment. If you are washing dishes or working in the garden it can be a spiritual experience. You can find joy in the simple acts of everyday living.

jetops
Jean Guerreiro jetops — I really don't know where to begin with this book. I couldn't see myself rating this book at more than three stars and the reason isn't because of the book's content or the writing, but because of my preference. The book isn't a long one. It's only 235 pages; but something that should have taken me an afternoon to read ended up taking me more than a month. I just couldn't become invested in the characters. I felt for each of them and a couple of times my toes curled when they had to dart across the street like scurrying mice. I say if craft is really what sells you, then I highly recommend this book. The author, Steven Galloway, is a true poet. His writing is something I'm very jealous of. It's simple, yet complex. It's hard hitting. But if you're the type of person who wants to fall in love with the characters and if you also enjoy a book that will keep you turning the page, then this book may not be for you. However I'm glad I stuck this book out. I didn't want to sell Galloway short and in the end, he really got me. I fell in love with his writing. Again, I never fell in love with the characters. If your taste is like mine, I still recommend you read this book. Galloway really does take you on this journey through three strikingly different lives in war-ravaged Sarajevo. Galloway's writing is something to be appreciated.

Angela Ortiz unaangela — I enjoyed reading this book. The author does a good job of witholding enough details that you want to keep reading to find out the link between mother and the beekeepers.

copychento
Carlos Alberto copychento — What turns people off about this book is the character of Holden - his self-centered, anti-social and skewed outlook. It helps to know that Holden is the ultimate unreliable narrator, in that most of what he says on his journey home is part of his veneer of cynicism, a mask that slips only occasionally throughout the novel. To me this is authentic. Teenagers learn quickly what roles they need to play to be accepted, and Holden hasn't learned this even though he wants acceptance. He feels affectionate towards others but has trouble showing it. His affluent life has left him spiritually hollow. HC is extremely flawed, but his touching relationship with Phoebe is what forms the emotional center of the novel - the one time when he lets his guard down. I get a little misty every time I read this.

Camille Faucon camcamf — Wow. Just wow. Did I say wow already? The best book I've read so far this year, without reservation. Let me elaborate, because I think it's necessary. I don't usually read Contemporary Romance. It's just not my thing. They are formulaic and boring to me. This is not that book. The characters are deep and damaged. The pain that haunts Michael leaps off the pages and wrenches the heart. Honestly, I've never read so much of a book with tears in my eyes. If there is any downside to this book, it's that if you are extremely sensitive it might be too much for you. I'm not kidding, it hurts that much. However, following along while they conquer the hurdles is a wonderful experience that is worth every moment of sniffling. Deidre Knight writes characters unlike any I've met in a long while. An absolutely amazing book that gives you an emotional ride you won't soon forget.
