Ana J anajr — I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I liked the mishmash of some fantasy put in to historical context and actual historical events such as Wellington's campaigns in Europe against the French. It is sad, amusing, dark and mystical. It's quite long but is thoroughly engaging so didn't get at all boring even though I was reading it for the best part of a month.

Seonyeong Park sseonn — Throw Harry Potter, Narnia, and college angst in a pot. Add in violence, death, sex, and you've The Magicians. Liked that it doesn't dumb things down. Dislike that it seems like a few books in one.

Aga Kozmic agacosmic — Brilliant...atmospheric, tense, frustrating. One of my all time favourite reads.

Harshil Khodpia harshilkhodpia — I read this hoping for a Jonathan Ames-like experience, or at least Jonathan Ames-lite. At its best it was close to the latter. There is a marked difference in the quality of the writing in the two sections that were expanded from previously published work, and much of the remainder felt like filler. The last quarter of the book in particular felt rushed. But there was enough promise in there for me to consider a more meaningful effort from MacDonald in the future.

Yoann Baunach ybaunach27802 — This was an interesting book about the Faraday family, five sisters, their father, and one daughter/niece/granddaughter, Maggie. As I read, I disliked Tessa, the mother/wife who died when the five girls were young, and how Leo had woven this make-believe image of the perfect wife and mother, which is the complete opposite of who she was.

Emilie Krasi leebylou9922 — I adore this book. Sebastian and Kaderin are fabulous characters and the setting of the Immortal Amazing Race is big fun!
