Rodrigo Vasquez rodva1987 — Who had twins? I am so confused? Stephen Stivers Mr. Rich English II 10 November 2011 Colfer, Eoin. Artemis Fowl: The Lost Colony. New York: Hyperion Books, 2006. Over the years, the cliché, “Time flies when you’re having fun,” has been told in one way or another. In Eoin Colfer’s novel, Artemis Fowl: The Lost Colony, we see Artemis and Holly in a similar but different incident. They go to another dimension called Limbo in order to save the 8th family of fairies which are the demons. In this particular case, they do not enjoy the sensation of fun because they are attacked by demons and could possibly be lost in space forever. Later, we find out that Artemis and Holly make it back to their own dimension; however, time has flown by substantially, by the means of THREE YEARS. After I finished this novel, the fact that three years had gone by stayed in my mind. Colfer made Artemis and Holly believe that they had been fighting abroad for one day when in reality, the world had continued without them for three years. He made me imagine what could happen if I was not present for a few years. Also, I thought about my family and whether they would move on with their lives and forget about me or do something to try to get me back? I pictured the world without me and I saw some people taking it hard while others were happy to see me gone. Although Artemis only went to Limbo to save the demons, I thought about what everyone on earth were thinking. I knew his family was wondering if would come back but what about the other fairies underground? Were they hoping Artemis and Holly would somehow make it back? In my opinion, I believed the fairies needed them back instead of only wanting them because together they had saved the fairies and made sure that humans did not discover them, multiple times. In terms of the situation of Artemis’s family, “These last few years. It’s been terrible for them” (Colfer 348), Colfer portrayed them as being very mournful or full of sorrow. The way he put the story in words was heartfelt and moving and I could feel Artemis’s pain. From those words, I could see Artemis blaming himself for all the grief he caused and how much he wanted to fix everything. However, he would not be quick about doing anything after he was told, “And even though you’re back, things will never be the same again” (Colfer 384). After I read this quote, I was stunned but not too much because I expected something like this to happen at the end of a book. On the other hand, I did not foresee this happening so rough. In the end, Colfer drew a wonderful picture of the book. From how Artemis was going through puberty to an egomaniacal demon trying to kill Artemis and Holly. I loved all of the descriptions and felt like I was watching an action movie although I was reading. Colfer also did an incredible job at tying everything back together to create an ending that left thoughts on my mind. By doing so, I went away from this book with a better understanding of Artemis (you would probably feel like this if you read the earlier books in the series) and a desire to read the next book in the series.

James Murray jimmurray332df — Two teens fall in love and end up killing each other. I thought the book was well written but the character actions a little moronic. The book was entertaining and only that, entertaining. My favorite part was when Mercutio first entered, he was the comic relief. I had to read this book for school, if I didn't then I would get a 0.
