Prunel Irie iriesbs6a49 — Overly-comprehensive account of Teddy's life as the President which includes every mundane detail. I listened to this book on audio and it didn't help that the reader had the annoying habit of delivering every quote by shouting. After about 2/3 of the way through the book, I threw in the towel. Not recommended.

Szabolcs Csánicz notonlydesign — ** spoiler alert ** My warning: I really like, usually love Gaelen Foley. And I'm about to rant really badly. You've been forewarned! Major spoilers here so beware. OK, I really liked the premise of this book. Lovers reunited is always a great one. I haven't read any of the other Inferno series, but that didn't seem to be a problem. The hero? Dreamy, charming, handsome, loyal, and a warrior. Can't get better than that! The heroine? Well, let me say some good things before I rant. The story is good if not a little predictable. There is some major contriving going on, but the story was enjoyable so I was able to overlook it. I was somewhat confused at the good "friend" Delilah because she never really seemed to care about Mara, just about Mara making her feel better. I was tremendously glad when Jordan called her out at the end of the book. I do wish she had apologized for her selfishness to Mara, but whatever. The ending is a little too much for me. I noticed I kept rolling my eyes alot at the end so thank you, Ms. Foley, for a headache and a bad ending! OK, the rant: the heroine, Mara, is seriously TSTL. At first she was portrayed as the poor child who survived a horrible childhood only to fall victim to a horrible marriage. But she has supposedly learned how to be independent and mature through these hardships so we should look at her as a fully developed woman who is weary of the ugly people in the world. Yeah, right. Mara is at turns a doting mother, a devoted friend, and a selfish brat with a serious jealousy problem. And she can't even blame her jealousy on her previous marriage because her husband was so horrible she didn't mind that he went to other women all the time. I'm going to talk about two scenes so that hopefully I keep this from spiraling into how much I hated the heroine. Scene 1: Jordan follows his target at a ball. Mara sees him walking and, angry that he didn't come directly to her, follows him. A little immature, but fine. Then when she comes upon the library that he went into, she starts banging on the door yelling for him to come out. Not just knocking like "hello, are you here?" But banging incessantly for him to open up and who is he with. And he has been nothing but doting since they renewed their relationship (in which she calls all the shots there, too). When he does open the door, after his target runs away of course, she demands to know who he was with and what he was doing. This is a woman of the world? If he had a reputation as a scoundrel, fine, but he didn't. In fact, he had just returned to London a few weeks ago, and had been spending every day with her!! And she follows him all in a pique because when she spotted him at the ball, he didn't run to her? UGH!! Scene 2: Her "friend" convinces her that after Jordan's very heartfelt plea for just a little time, he must be up to no good. Again, she has no reason to mistrust him at this point, but she agrees and off they go to the bordello. Instead of waiting at home to question him, she runs off to confront him there then gets all hurt when he is angry that shes there. Of course, he is again trying to corner his target when she walks in all flirty and happy that he isn't shagging someone. Off the target goes so he whirls on her in fury wondering why she is at a bordello. She then gets all hurt, I guess because she expected him to laugh at her sauciness?? She tells him not to see her ever again and flounces away. Cut to the next morning where he gives her one of the most honest, impassioned speeches about his life as a spy, confesses his love, and asks for her forgiveness. She realizes that there were a few times when he had to lie, because he's a SPY!, and she's all "it's all been a lie. How could you use me like that?" SERIOUSLY! He's just told her all of his secrets including the fact that he isn't allowed to tell her, but he is willing to go against his oath TO THE KING for her, and she's all "You liar!"???? UGH! That doesn't even begin to mention the ending where she just becomes irredeemable to me with her trying to help the trained warrior by doing exactly what he told her not do, but whatever. At this point, I'm wondering if having her character be twenty and newly out in society wouldn't have been better since it would have given the reader some patience with her stupidity. I'm very sad that I disliked this character so much because I truly do enjoy Ms. Foley's writing. I guess this one just wasn't for me. For a neutral reader, the story was okay, the subplot with Drake was great, the writing easy if somewhat contrived scenes, and the hero was lovable. If you don't mind TSTL women, then this one won't be that bad for you. For myself, I am still going to buy the next one - probably with the credit I'll get at HPB for this one!

_ared_elamora
Jared Delamora _ared_elamora — I really enjoyed this book, but for some reason I struggled to get through it. It is very detailed and grabs your attention so you don't want to skim read any of it. This story of a prostitute who rises up from the streets but continues to have a dark twist throughout the novel.
