Eunah Jeong alqea — An awesome book. Very sad but when you're dealing with the subject of a war it usually is. It kept my attention and thought using Death as the narrator was a nice touch. Loved the characters and story. I highly recommend it.

Aditya Verma lotusheart — First of all you'll have trouble getting this book. I did. Second, it's probably as much info as you can get about these semi-anonymous people who suffered martyrdom under Elizabeth, James and Cromwell. However, the info is at best scanty. Almost all of them, trained in English colleges in either Douai or Vallodid on the continent, stole back into England and Wales with as little notice as possible. Thus we have little info on them. Most of it involves the process of their deaths, very little about their lives, more of what I was hoping to learn.

Abha Anand _bha — This book is a real gem and I find it to be absolutely fantastic. This was one I really took my time over and savoured every word. I just know that this will be a book that I will enjoy over and over again. So easy to read with a mixture of family stories, touching history, social history of the 20th century and art and a few of the great artists of the time. When De Waal refers to the paintings and artists in the first third of the book I just had to look them up on line. I gave this five stars at this point and it never disappointed me at any time.
