David Blanco _hite_ox — i love these old sci-fi books. they are not based on good science, and the feats of their characters don't stand up to critical thinking, but they are filled with adventure and romance. just perfect for bringing out the inner pre-pubescent boy in me. this book is the first installment of the "John Carter on Mars" adventures. (i am already well into the second book of the series.) by the way. i did not read the Penguin Classics version. this was a free, on-line version available from one of several websites that offer free, out-of-copyright books for your iPod touch or other device. at first, i did not believe reading a book on an iPod Touch would be very comfortable to the eye. on the contrary, i experienced periods when i could not put it down. And being able to just pop it into my pocket was incredibly convenient. yes, this is turning into more a review of the iPod Touch than the book, so i will end by recommending the Touch's book-reading application "Stanza," and leave it at that.

Syeda Rida ridajaffery — This book was very intense and compelling. Definitely a teachable book; brought up lots of things to think about. I went through a wide range of emotions while reading it--I felt like I was experiencing things with the characters--and that includes anger and frustration. Regardless of the action and whether it was realistic, this book will start conversations.
