zyii
Yii Z zyii — This is one of my favorite books. It is gripping, vivid, exciting, frightening, and full of human spirit. The story follows a woman in an ultra-religious and oppressive future society. She struggles to make sense of the world, longs for her past, and endeavors to return to some semblance of the life she knew before the world went mad. IT was a book that I couldn't put down, full of imagery and emotion, and one that I could read over and over again.

Tania Mendoza taniamendoza — First Read: March 2011 Original Rating: 5 stars The third book was my favorite. It grabbed me right away, had me in a emotional roller coaster, and left me feeling hallow. These one ends on a cliffhanger, kinda, so I had to pick up the fourth book right away. However, when I started the third book I was hooked. Shadow Kiss is back at the school and it's about Rose figuring out more about Vladimir and Anna, his shadow kiss guardian. It's also when Rose and the other guardians take field training--guarding the moroi on school grounds. Again, Rose fights a lot in this book and I like how it shows her strong (and sometimes not always strong character.) *** Second Read: July 2012 Original Rating: 5 Stars Review is posted here. As I already said above, this book changed this series for me. It went from "okay" to holy crapoly, WHY DON'T I HAVE THE NEXT ONE? (which, related, when I FINISHED Shadow Kiss Sunday night for the second time, I immediately read Blood Promise. At 1 in the morning. I . . . like Blood Promise. A lot. And Spirit Bound. And Last Sacrifice.) ANYWAY. This book is huge. And packs a punch. Rose is now dealing with the loss of Mason and now she's seeing ghosts. And she has to guard Christian for the field activity all guardians have to do in order to graduate. TSK TSK. Rose's life sucks, basically. Guys . . . I just really love this book, and there's not much I can talk about without spoiling it. I mean, as you know, Dimitri is taken by Strigoi. Which, let me tell you something: when I first read this one, I didn't read THAT summary above (seriously, who wrote that? It sucks! the Strigoi attack doesn't happen until like page 350.) but this one: Rose knows it is forbidden to love another guardian. Her best friend, Lissa--the last Dragomir princess--must always come first. Unfortunately, when it comes to gorgeous Dimitri Belikov, some rules are meant to be broken . . . (side note: YES. I would break all the rules for Dimitri.) Then a strange darkness begins to grow in Rose's mind, and ghostly shadows warn of a terrible evil drawing nearer to the Academy's iron gates. The immortal undead are closing in, and they want vengeance for the lives Rose has stolen. In a heart-stopping battle to rival her worst nightmares, Rose will have to choose between life, love, and the two people who matter most . . . but will her choice mean that only one can survive? And so when I got to the part about them going to the cave, I KNEW what was going to happen. I was freaking out and saying "Oh my god, if he turns Strigoi, I AM NEVER READING THIS SERIES AGAIN." like I wasn't even going to finish it. Spoiler: I totally fucking finished this series AND he turned Strigoi. I suck at keeping promises. And I am so glad I did finish the rest of the series, because like I said before (REPEATING ALL THE WAY) this is when the series gets good. THIS is where I would advise people to start if it didn't really confuse them. With I don't think it would because Richelle Mead has a way of reminding readers of what happened in previous books. But whatever. I'm off to go read whatever book I'm currently on. And I'm hoping it's Spirit Bound. OH and before I forget: Shadow Kiss's cover is awesome. It looks like she's a vampire ready to eat you. Or well Rose before she's about to attack.

Chen Chen kind_pistol — Mystery and ghost story that tries for depth but misses the mark by just a smidge. Miranda and her brother Rob were in a car accident that their friend didn’t walk away from. Now, Rob is claustrophobic and ever since that night Miranda has been able to see ghosts. Their family goes on a trip to England in an attempt to alleviate some tensions. Unfortunately, for Miranda this is one haunted city. The ghosts are everywhere, across the street from the flat they are renting and practically around every corner. Miranda meets a mysterious boy, Nick, who has the same ability to see ghosts that she does. He shows her around town and tells her about what he knows of their ability. He also has an uncanny way of disappearing or appearing. Essentially, Nick is the mystery part of this story. Who is he, why does he keep interacting with Miranda, and what is he up to? Interesting yes, but the interactions aren’t quite enough, or built as well as they could be. Personally, I didn’t feel there was anything remarkable about Miranda or Nick. The story was rather slow until the action quickly picked up the pace at the end with an unexpected turn of events. It had a good ending that I didn’t expect, that salvaged things for me a bit. Plus the fact that I’m glad it wasn’t a YA romance, but overall, it lacked that certain something. Whether it was an absence of character building, or something else, I just never felt like I really got to know Miranda or build a real attachment to any of the characters.
