Anita Ilie anitailief437 — I loved this book! Every young girl who wants to grow up and have a happy life needs to read it...and every young boy who wants to grow up to be a good man! It's frightening and funny at the same time.

Jimena Ponce jimostrokes — This book seems to create polar reactions. I don't gravitate toward this author as much as, say, Murakami. I think I prefer less of a minimalist style... Or I can take it in smaller doses. The bleakness of this story is unrelenting. I did enjoy the spare poetry in some of the descriptions. One phrase in particular stands out where the author describes a night of "autistic darkness". Brilliant that! You knew the story wasn't going to end well, but perhaps it did. I like that it was a bit open ended and not neatly tied up. The amount of patience the father showed in answering his son's many questions was touching, and underscored the occasional tensions when the father snapped back, then apologized. When you strip all the trappings of everyday life away, things like the cadence of patience and frustration as outward signs of a deep love are still there, alive and well. For that, we are well reminded. As a note, the lack of punctuation I took for shoddiness in the ebook version, but alas it was intentional.

Joy Das joydas — I enjoyed this book. It kept you wanting more. I still haven't decided if I liked it or not but I think I did.

Udruzenje Cetiri udruzenje43424 — It was pretty unnerving to realize just how systematic the Nazis were in keeping track of people - both foreign workers and their backgrounds/skills and the Jews and "unfit" they shipped to concentration camps. It's simply amazing that the old punch cards could do so much, and the way IBM catered to what the Nazi customers wanted machines and cards to be able to do really makes me glad I don't own any IBM computers. I'm uncertain how much a company should be held responsible today for things the management did in the past, but there should be some sort of accountability on IBM's part for the part they played in Nazi atrocities.

Karla Maheca _ — I listened to this as audiobook and for about 3 days, I was addicted, listening to it in one earphone while I walked around the grocery store and while I worked around the house, outside my normal routine on my commute home. I loved the way Stockett vividly described the setting and the characters and she has a knack for making you feel like you are right in the setting, waiting to find out what will happen next, the same way the characters are. But the ending seemed abrupt -- I wish I knew more about where they all ended up and how their lives were affected by the courageous (and others, cowardly) things they did. But I suppose that is the mark of a good book - one you don't want to see end.

Haruko Noguchi hattii — Three and a half stars, really. Interesting setting and some cool worldbuilding. I wasn't sure about the kick-ass loner heroine (after having had it to the back teeth with Anita Blake's monstrous ego tripping and righteousness) but Kate grew on me as the story progressed and I got the feeling she was better thought out, with more depth to her characterisation, than Laurell K Hamilton's protags. Some of the pacing felt a bit off, and I felt my interest flagging mid-book, but it picked up and I was enjoying it by the end. Sometimes Kate's loner instincts made it hard to tell which characters were going to become important to the plot, let alone important in her life, and which were only bit parts. Plus, don't these guys have the most tragically everyday names for fantasy dudes? Ted and Jim and Derek and Nick? Apologies to all the Teds and Jims and Dereks and Nicks out there...
